16 Inch Plastic Plant Pots – An Overview
If you have only just started thinking about getting started with container gardening then the chances are you have not ever tried storing vegetable seeds, or even plant food in a container. It’s certainly something that has caught on over the last couple of years and now many gardeners are opting for container gardening. But why should you choose to do this over traditional soil gardening? There are a number of advantages that container gardening has over normal house-plants. In fact it can even be more rewarding than traditional vegetable growing, if you get the balance right.
One of the big reasons is that you can move your container plants around. It doesn’t matter if they get damaged or simply lost their place, you can easily move them to a new spot in your garden. If you have a large garden or have space to move then you may have to invest in some very sturdy containers. For those on a smaller scale then you will be happy with the portable models. These are perfect for kids who like to have their plants and flowers wherever they want to.
You can also move your container plants at a later date too. This means that you can shift your seasonal crops from one year to another. Take time to carefully plan where you will be putting your plants next year so that you get them in the right place. Once you know the best place you will be planting next year, it will be much easier to move your plants. Sometimes you can also move them to a larger container; for instance if you want to use the space for perennial plants you could transfer them to a six to eight foot tall container. But you will often find that you can get away with moving your pots just a few inches and still get just as good a result.
You don’t have to be limited to using container gardening as your only means of vegetable gardening. One great idea that you could try is hanging baskets from the ceiling. These will provide an eye-catching way for your plants to look at. And because you have the baskets hanging, it is easy to move them if you want to rearrange them. If you are thinking about doing this, make sure that you line the bottom of the basket with a few hooks so that they will hang freely.
There are many plants that love being planted directly into the ground. You can purchase pots that have holes drilled in the bottom. These pots – when well cared for – will retain the water and help to keep the plant from drying out. Because they have been a hole in the bottom, you won’t have to worry about them rotting or losing moisture.
Some plants – like the violets – prefer to be potted. In order to ensure that they thrive when being potted, you will want to choose pot pots that are wide, deep, and wide. Make sure that the width is two to three times wider than the plant that it is holding. The deeper the pot the more water it will hold. When choosing a potting medium for your plants – make sure that it is made of a material that absorbs moisture well.
Make sure that you are taking care of your plants when you have them inside the potting medium. You should check the bottom of the container to make sure that there is no dampness. You should water your plants only about once per week – other than that – to ensure that the roots remain healthy. If you over water, the roots will become heavy and start falling off. Don’t add any fertilizer while the plant is growing – once it is four to five inches in height – you can put in any type of fertilizer that you like.
Just like any other container, you will want to clean your potting area regularly. If you do not clean it, bacteria could grow and make your plants sick. When you purchase your container, look at the instructions on the box and make sure that you follow them closely. If not, you might end up ruining your plants by washing them out and killing them off.
