Glass terrariums are the most popular DIY terrariums. I don’t know why, but when I first thought about having a glass terrarium built I assumed that everyone would think I was nuts. But as I watched my glass baby grow, I began to wonder what all the fuss was about. You just have to wipe it down with a damp cloth once in a while and it will look like new.

The next type of glass terrarium is the acrylic terrarium. Again, this is probably the most popular way to build a terrarium now and will remain so. The biggest disadvantage of a acrylic terrarium is that it tends to get cloudy and foggy. So you won’t be able to see your fish very well and you will need to constantly move the terrarium to keep it from getting too foggy. This is also one of the more expensive terrariums to buy.

The third and final type of glass terrarium is the mesh terrarium. This is the most expensive option but it also has the most versatility. If you don’t mind a little mess than you can set up one of these terrariums right on your table. The mesh is good at trapping air so your terrarium will stay nice and cool even if there is a breeze in the terrarium.

The advantages of a glass terrarium over netting or acrylic terrariums are pretty clear. You can see your fish pretty well even in the dark. You can buy premade glass tanks and all you need to do is fill them with water and plants. Some people prefer to buy their own glass terrariums but that’s quite expensive and you might not have the space in your home to set one up.

When you set up a glass terrarium be sure to use some sort of a screen. Glass terrariums are typically heavy, so the larger the terrarium the more weight it will need to hold. So, if you’re going to get one large terrarium make sure to purchase one that has some sort of lid on it. It is much better to have some type of netting underneath the glass than the glass itself.

There are many great companies that sell terrariums and even some that specialize just in glass terrariums. If you get a store that specializes in terrariums, you will find that they will be able to help you choose the right size and the right color glass. Once you know the size and color of the terrarium, you can then go online and start shopping for one.
